RUGBY:
SADDLEWORTH School’s Year 11 rugby league team has claimed the Oldham Schools’ Cup for the FIFTH season in a row.
Centre Matthew Fletcher sealed the deal by racing over for two late tries to give his side a memorable triumph over Waterhead Academy, 28-18.
Saddleworth established a 12-0 advantage but Waterhead went on to dominate either side of the interval and took a well-deserved 18-12 lead.
With confidence levels up, the trophy looked to be heading the way of Waterhead.
But an improved completion rate and a more patient approach from Saddleworth paid dividends in the final 15 minutes. Jackson went over for his second try and after the impressive Fletcher had crossed twice, the prize was again heading Saddleworth’s way.
OLDHAM St Anne’s under-18s maintained their 100-per-cent home record in the North-West Youth League with a 18-8 derby win over Saddleworth Rangers.
