RUGBY: SADDLEWORTH School won three out of the four winners’ trophies at the Oldham Schools’ Rugby League Cup finals.
The Year 10s, nines and sevens were successful, but Waterhead Academy prevented a clean sweep by emerging victorious in the year eights showdown at Saddleworth Rangers RLFC.
Saddleworth’s Year 10 team registered an impressive 46-22 victory over Newman College to secure the title of Oldham Schools' champions for the third time in four years.
The Year Nines won the Oldham Schools' Cup for the third time on the trot, beating Failsworth 48-16.
Waterhead won the Year Eight final 28-18 as Saddleworth Rangers team-mates became rivals. Nathan Roebuck (two) and Leon Hurley scored tries for Saddleworth, with Rob Charles adding three goals.
Saddleworth’s Year Seven team registered a narrow 12-6 victory over a spirited Blue Coat side to gain their maiden Oldham Schools' Cup success. Saddleworth scored three unconverted tries, from Joe Ellison, Dan Boulter and Joe Molden.
Saddleworth will represent Oldham Schools in the Carnegie North-West Champions Cup next year.
