ATHLETIC’S terrific win at Burnley on Tuesday in the quarter-finals of the Lancashire FA Youth Cup was overshadowed by a serious injury sustained by Michael Brewster.
The 17-year-old second-year scholar has fractured the fibula in his left leg.
Midfield man Brewster was injured in the opening minutes of the match at Burnley’s Gawthorpe training ground. As he went to make a tackle, his standing leg buckled.
An ambulance was called and Brewster was taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital where an x-ray revealed a fracture.
Brewster is to have further checks to discover the severity of the injury and to see if surgery is needed.
Athletic’s youngsters went on to win the match 2-1 thanks to goals from Ben Grant and a late winner from substitute Emile Tansinda.
FORGET Gigg Lane . . . Athletic’s Sky Bet League Two neighbours Bury will now play their home games at The JD Stadium after they agreed a new “amazing deal” with JD Sports which will see their financial woes ease.
The Shakers have called their home Gigg Lane since they were founded in 1885.
On top of renaming the ground for the first time, the club’s kit will also be sponsored by the Bury-based sportswear retailer from the start of next season as part of the three-year deal.
