THE streets of Derker were jam-packed full of children and parents as the Oldham Primary Schools’ Cross-Country League stopped off at Stoneleigh Park.
More than 500 pupils, willed on by mums, dads, grandparents and siblings, put their best foot forward in round three.
With 31 of the borough’s primary schools represented, competition was fierce among boys and girls.
At the half-way point of the league, Hulme head the overall standings, from Thorp, with St Joseph’s in third place.
Schools’ games organiser Steve Tyrell was delighted with the turn-out and thanked Friends of Stoneleigh Park for their help on the day when it was estimated a crowd 1,500 converged on the venue.
They put on refreshments and acted as marshals.
Friends of Stoneleigh Park secretary Angela Cosgrove said: “It was a real family event and it was great to see so many parents together, cheering on their children.”
