BOXING: OLDHAM Boxing Club’s teenage star Will Cawley has earned a call-up to Great Britain Amateur Boxing’s development squad.
Cawley (16) will spend three days of intense training at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield - in what is seen as a stepping stone for potential Olympic boxers.
Cawley became a champion in the National Ambition tournament, last December and almost doubled up in February’s England Youth Championships.
Cawley’s delighted coach Tommy Mooney said: “This is great news for the club and Will. It’s down to all the hard work we have put in.
Will is so dedicated to his sport and he is a very humble and respectful young man who could, if he dedicates himself, represent his country at the Olympics.”
Cawley will be Oldham’s third boxer to have been involved in the Great Britain set-up, alongside Boarshaw’s Danny Wright and John Newall.
