OLDHAM Academy North is one of the best schools in the country for student progress.
It is in the top 20 per cent of state-funded schools in England for the amount of progress pupils make between leaving primary school and doing their GCSEs.
It will now receive an Educational Outcomes Award from SSAT, an independent organisation which provides training and support for schools, at an awards ceremony in Liverpool, on April 30.
SSAT chief executive Sue Williamson congratulated the school, in Broadway, Royton, on its “exceptional achievement”.
She added: “They have proved themselves to be leading the field in improving GCSE results for their students.
“These results show what can be achieved when skilled teachers have high expectations and ambition for every young person.”
Oldham Academy North principal Martin Knowles said: “This is wonderful news. The progress that our students make is now recognised as being among the best in the country. I am very, very proud. Our students deserve nothing less.”
