SPORTING stars of the future have been honoured by the former manager of the Great Britain amputee football team.
Pete Wild, from Denshaw, who took the national side to the World Cup in Mexico last year, handed out awards to pupils from 18 primaries in the Hathershaw Sports Cluster, co-ordinated by Hathershaw College.
The pupils took part in 25 competitions across a range of sports throughout the year. The winners of each competition received medals, while the best performers from each school received trophies.
Pete recently stepped down from the national side but remains as a youth development coach at Oldham Athletic.
Hathershaw College’s assistant head teacher Lorna Philip said the sports cluster was going from strength to strength: “It was nice to see the schools taking part in healthy competition.”
