The Knowledge March cover
THERE's a sombre, midwinter air to the Feb-Mar front cover of the Chronicle's education magazine The Knowledge.
A stunning picture taken by youth worker Dayna Brannick - of a lone teenage girl walking along the snow-strewn road to the Birkenau death camp - is a chilling reminder of Oldham youth's council's recent trip to Poland, as are evocative pictures inside, taken by her colleague Chris Lewis.
But the new edition of the magazine doesn't dwell on man's inhumanity to man; we also have advice on school admissions, school shows and even student art that deliberately sets out to be ugly!
There's an in-depth follow-up to the recent, much-awaited report by the Oldham Education Commission and where it might lead local educators and officials, while we hear inspirational words from Oldham's man of the moment, sport legend Kevin Sinfield.
We find out how one former Oldham College student returned to help design the building's replacement; talk to the new head of University Campus Oldham, see students turn teacher as elderly users learn how to handle the latest gadgets, check Oldham College's attitude to LGBT Month, find out what's brewing for Science Week, report on the increasing importance of work experience placements and... lots more in a packed 28 pages.
The Knowledge is free with the Chronicle on February 24. Don't miss it!
