HOLLINWOOD ARLFC were much better in their return fixture against Clayton - they shipped 68 points in the first meeting away from home - but still slipped to a 36-8 defeat.
The Fields New Road club tackled well in spells, which prevented the visitors from playing open rugby in this Pennine League Division Two clash.
Jim Hamilton produced some big hits, while Chris Gill carved open the visitors, which enabled Ashley Dixon to gather a short pass and race over for a try.
Replying with a converted score as 'Wood eased off the tackles, Clayton stormed into a 26-4 lead at half-time.
The second period started with 'Wood playing some good rugby, with Dixon doubling his try tally for the match.
Trailing 26-8, Hollinwood had to throw caution to the wind, but passes went to ground, while Clayton took control and ran in another 10 points for a comfortable victory in the end.
Hollinwood played well in patches, but again with no substitutions, there was no let-up for the starting XIII.
With no game this weekend, Hollinwood have time to prepare for the visit of Ossett Trinity Tigers.
