HEYSIDE eased past Moorside by seven wickets to book home advantage against Saddleworth in the Tanner Cup semi-finals.

An unbeaten half century from professional Roelof Hugo and a quickfire 20 by Nick Campbell saw them ease past the 178 target.

They began last night at 111 for one but, after losing Steve Firth first ball for 49, raced to the total before the rain could intervene.

Saddleworth, chasing Greenfield’s meagre 85 all out, also wrapped up victory last night, reaching 87 for three.

Crossley among runs for Lancs

LANCASHIRE over-50s, featuring several Oldham-based players, beat Cheshire by 22 runs at Formby.

Uppermill batsman Gary Crossley top scored with 40 in a total of 231 for five before Cheshire were dismissed for 209.

Next up for Lancashire is a trip to Northumberland, followed by a Roses battle with Yorkshire at Elland.

WERNETH capitalised on other games being washed out as they moved joint top of the CLL under-18 Whittaker Cup.

They won by seven wickets at Middleton to join Heywood, with whom they share an identical record.

Werneth dismissed Middleton for 128 before making 123 for three in reply, Matt Taylor retiring on 53.

Oldham were forced to concede defeat at Bury, where they were unable to raise a team.

All the other fixtures were washed out.
