Mixed fortunes for Micklehurst

CLOSE CALL for Heyside’s Ryan Barnes off the bowling of Moorside’s Pete Broadhurst in their league clash.
MICKLEHURST had a mixed weekend in premiership one of the Drakes Huddersfield League.
They overwhelmed Lascelles Hall, but lost out to leaders Golcar in a nail-biting finish.
A majestic 179 not out from Australian Dennis Lonergan lifted Micklehurst to a daunting 340 for three in Saturday’s clash. Quasir Rashid (54) and Aaron Lilley (49 not out) offered good support.
Lascelles Hall were never in the hunt and crumbled to 178 all out in reply. Lonergan completed an excellent day’s work with figures of four for 37.
Micklehurst came agonisingly close to toppling Golcar on Sunday.
In a match reduced to 25 overs per side because of rain, Golcar made 172 for five, which included a stylish 77 from Steve Whitwam.
Lonergan was again the star of the show, but his stunning effort was to no avail as the Castle Lane club went down by three runs.
With eight wickets down, he went on the attack and blitzed 20 off the penultimate over to leave Micklehurst needing four to win from six balls.
But Lonergan was bowled for 84 off the first ball and with Ben Tunnicliffe departing the very next delivery, it was all over.
