Glodwick stunner for leaders

LOWLY Glodwick caused a massive upset as they inflicted a nine-wicket defeat on Heyside, leaders of the Armstrongs Office Furniture Saddleworth and District Cricket League.

Heyside’s title bid received a jolt, even though they remain 20 points clear of Uppermill, who overhauled Austerlands into second spot after a 10-wicket win against Greenfield.

It was an afternoon of the unexpected as Heyside were bowled out for only 92 runs at Glodwick, Imran Aslam taking six wickets for 20.

Glodwick registered only their third league win of the campaign with ease, scoring 94 for one in reply.

Austerlands lost second spot after they were beaten by one wicket at home by Saddleworth in a nerve-jangling finish.

Adam Young hit 57, Kevin Defeu 48 and Michael Schofield 44 as Austerlands reached 199 for nine from their overs.

Saddleworth scraped home by scoring 200 for nine in reply, Steven Howard top scoring with 87 as Austerlands tumbled to fourth place.

Uppermill seized on Austerlands’ slip to snatch second spot after an impressive win against Greenfield.

Greenfield were bowled out for 125, James Baron taking four wickets for 46.

Overseas amateur Zeeshan Khan hit an unbeaten 84 as Uppermill reached their target without loss, making 127 for none.

Bamford are third after winning by eight wickets at Hollinwood who made 208 for nine from their overs.

Gerry Cassell smashed 144 as Bamford scored 209 for two in reply.

Shaw eased their troubles near the foot of the table with a six-wicket home win against Stayley who were bowled out for 101, overseas amateur Adrian Farooq and Shaun Dean each claiming four dismissals. Shaw scored 102 for four in reply.

Friarmere had a comfortable win against Droylsden, making 234 for three before dismissing their opponents for 94.

Zafar Iqbal scored 128 not out to take his season’s total to 988 runs from only 15 games.

Austerlands won by 24 runs at leaders Saddleworth in the battle of the top two in division two.

Liam Defeu made 78 out of Austerlands’ total of 164 all out. Saddleworth were dismissed for 140, Gary Pemberton scoring 44.
