Knock-out relief for Chadderton

Date published: 08 July 2008

CRISIS club Chadderton’s reprieve may be brief as they have landed tough draws in the FA Cup and FA Vase.

The Broadway club was originally kicked out of both knockouts after missing the deadline for entries.

But sympathetic FA chiefs, after hearing about the club’s off-the-field troubles, accepted their entries after the shut-off point.

Chadderton from the renamed Vodkat North West Counties League, first division, have been drawn away to VNWCL, premier division side Maine Road in the extra preliminary round of the FA Cup on Saturday, August 16.

And if they emerge victors they are away again in the preliminary round with an even tougher game at UniBond League, first division south side Brigg Town on Saturday, August 30.

And fate hasn’t been kind either in the FA Vase for Chadderton who have been drawn away to VNWCL, premier division side Atherton Collieries in the first qualifying round on Saturday, September 6.

In the event of them being successful, they would be at home to Bootle in the second qualifying round a fortnight later.

OLDHAM TOWN must also pull off giantkilling acts in they are to have successful cup runs.

They have been drawn at home to Ashton Athletic in a VNWCL first division-versus-premier tie in the extra preliminary round of the FA Cup on August 16.

And if they come through that, they are at home to UniBond League, first division north side Rossendale United in the preliminary round a fortnight later.

Exempt until the second qualifying round of the FA Vase, Town have been drawn away to AFC Emley, of Northern Counties East, division one on September 20.

MOSSLEY have arguably the kindest draw in the FA Cup as they play VNWCL, premier division side Ramsbottom United or Northern Counties East side Hallam in the preliminary round on August 30.

The FA Trophy, preliminary round on October 4 sees Mossley at home to Stocksbridge Park Steels in a first division north versus premier division clash involving UniBond League clubs.

Mossley would be at home to Goole Town or Nuneaton Town in the first qualifying round on October 18 if they are successful.
