WERNETH’S John Willie Lees Wood Cup hopes hang in the balance after play resumed last night in their quarter-final against Monton and Weaste.
Monton, who had been 113 for six after 40 overs, fought their way to a respectable 165 all out thanks to some effective hitting by Gaurav Sharma (34) and Dave Hamilton (26).
In reply, Werneth reached 40 for three after 16 overs. Deputy professional Sajith Fernando was dismissed for nine.
No play took place last night in the other quarter-finals, including Crompton’s tie with Walsden.
Play in all four ties will take place tonight, weather permitting.
HEYSIDE completed their passage to the Saddleworth League Tanner Cup final with a seven-wicket win over visitors Saddleworth.
Steve Firth (54), Scott Bloor (41) and Mark Barnes (32) laid the foundations and professional Roelof Hugo (54 not out) was crucially put down when getting into his stride.
Nick Campbell stepped up to hit the winning six off his first delivery to register 188 for three with 15 balls to spare.
