Saddleworth still battling

SADDLEWORTH are still battling on three fronts in the area’s top knockout competitions.
They face a trip to Hazel Grove in the last 16 of the Dunham Forest, are to home to Withington in the Archie Preston mixed and also carry sole local hopes in the BMW Junior Challenge with a home draw against Chorley.
The only other local side through are Werneth in the Dunham and they are at home to Astbury, who beat Brookdale 4-3 in the last round.
THERE are still places available in the field for the Royton Sword, a 36-hole Mitsushiba Northern Order of Merit event at the High Barn club on Sunday, July 20.
Home players Chris Rabbich, Gary Melling and Mike Shaw will head the home challenge.
Apart from the scratch competition, there will also be a nett competition for the Anniversary Salver.

OLDHAM pairs took the top two places in the Ladies Open, a four-ball betterball Stableford, at BROOKDALE.
Winners were Mary Buckley and Joyce Beech on the card from Linda Newman and Linda Bailey.
Third place with 38 points went to Brookdale’s Sheila Short and Angela Hunter.
The LGU medal, which also doubled up as a qualifier for the Bunty Booth, was won by Margaret Coleman after a four way card play-off for top spot.
She had a round of 94–25-69 to edge out second-placed Norma High (92-23-69), Angela Hunter (104-35-69) and Barbara Loughlin (103–34-69).
Mr Captain’s Prize at SADDLEWORTH, a 36-hole major, was won by Eileen Moores with a two-round total of 185-38-147.
She finished one shot clear of Barbara Shuttleworth (206-58–148).
The first-day prize was won by Julie Ward (95-25-70) while second-round honours went to Anita Scholes (90–20–70).
