OLDHAM have submitted a letter of appeal to the CLL following a scorebook mix-up in their recent derby match against Werneth at the Coppice.
Liam Garnett was bowling to Werneth's overseas amateur Nathan Griffin when a short-pitched ball hit the batsman on the helmet.
The umpire indicated one short ball for the over, but the scorers interpreted his signal to mean five penalty runs.
The runs were added to the Werneth total at the end of the over.
Said Oldham skipper Mel Whittle: "The extra five runs are in the scorebook and they should not be. We have written to the league and it's now up to them."
As the game was played under the jurisdiction of the MCC, there is a possibility that the game may be declared void and two points awarded to both teams.
League chairman Howard Dronsfield confirmed Oldham’s letter had been received and said the matter would be discussed at the next league Management Committee meeting.
