Bernard leads way in 10k

ROYTON Road Runners had 23 athletes taking part in the Rochdale Harriers 10k road race, the 10th in their championship series.
Bernard Cassidy led the way, finishing in 16th place with a time of 38 minutes 13 seconds. Bernard Goodwin (20th 39:06) and Dave Kershaw (29th 39:38) were next to cross the line.
Finishing close together, and competing for positions in group 1 at the club were, Bryan Lawton (53rd 41:39), Barry Greaves (57th 41:43) and Dave Emanuel (41:55).
Robert Kellett and Colin Green completed the race in (63rd 42:22) and (66th 42:37) respectively followed by Bruce Whittam (76th 43:20), Ian Casey (84th 43:48) and Steve Shaw (92nd 44:41).
The Royton club’s lady champion Debbie Shaw crossed the line in 112th position with a time of 46 minutes 37 seconds but was pushed all the way by Shiela Waite (113rd 46:40).
Andy Nuttall (139th 47:12), making his debut for the club and Tony Kane (139th 48:41) were both happy with their times on a very wet night.
Other times were:- Helen Knight (143rd 49:02), Jeff Cordwell (151st 49:36), Teresa Hollins (163rd 50:32), Louise Saunders (170th 50:53), Mike Bowler (175th 51:28), Louise Gilchrist (205th 53:37) and Brian Hurst (253rd 78:19).
