First win

THE Oldham women’s darts team registered its first win in the Greater Manchester Summer League in style defeating Bolton side Halliwell 6-1.

The local victors were Debbie Dunkerley (2-0), Shereen Scholes (2-0), Joan Hicken (2-0), Alison Bennett (2-0), Janet Fox (2-0) along with Tracey Hindle and Shereen Scholes (2-0) in the pairs.

Oldham had lost their opening two matches, though both were against teams expected to challenge for the title.

OLDHAM town-team player Louise Simmonds and her playing partner Oliver Byanakma lost in the women’s pairs final of the Welsh Open at Rhyl.

Mother and daughter Janet Fox and Shereen Scholes reached the last eight in the same event.

There was also a last-eight place in the mixed triples for Oldham pair Shereen Scholes and John Downs along with Blackpool’s Tony Burrows.
