CROMPTON are through to the semi-finals of the John Willie Lees Wood Cup.
They booked their place against Heywood at Crimble on Sunday after completing victory over Walsden at Glebe Street last night, the rain-affected match finishing 10 days after it started.
Walsden ended up with only eight batsmen because of other commitments so, when their seventh wicket fell on 143 in reply to Crompton’s 199, they were effectively all out.
James Rawlinson and professional Janaka Gunaratne threatened to take the game away from Crompton when they took the score to 89 for the loss of Mark Hooson’s wicket.
But when Majid Khan and Danny Cashin sent them back to the pavilion, the game was as good as up for Walsden, who were finally “dismissed” for 143.
In the other quarter-final completed last night, Ashton (156 for three) defeated Middleton (155 for eight) to book a semi-final at Monton and Weaste.
