SAM LUNT landed a double at Oldham, winning both the Captain’s Final and Captain’s Spoon.
It was the first major the 16-year-old has won after rounds of 76-12-64 and 73-11-62 for a total of nett 126.
Chris Bramall was runner up with 74-12-62 and 77-12-65 for 127 while third place went to David Hewitt with 68-6-62 and 72-6-66 for 128.
Lunt also took the Spoon which was awarded for the best score in the final round.
Winners of a four-ball betterball medal were Chris Bramall and Rick Sweet with a 57. Runners-up were Frank Lawrence and Ian McGloughlin (58) while third place went to Steve Mills and John Bramall (59).
Vice-president’s handicap at STAMFORD, a 36-hole major, saw Dave Batty emerge the victor with a score of nett 137 after rounds of 79-7-72 and 72–7–65.
The winner of the morning round was Keith Walker (79-14-65) while afternoon honours went to Jamie Hughes (71-6-65).
The Morris Medal, to the player with the best gross score for 36 holes, went to vice-captain and five-handicapper Ian Grimsditch with rounds of 76 and 73. He triumphed on the card from Dave Park (75 and 74) and Andrew Bent (73 and 76).
Captain David Whittingham took a night off presenting the prizes at WERNETH to receive one in a winning team alongside junior captain Jack Suttie and Paul Egan after a 54.6 return in a three-ball Texas scramble.
That edged out James Buckley, Ian Gillies and Adie Buckley on 55.4.
Paul Rowbotham and John Armstrong are familiar fourball winners and their 48 points was three clear of the field in a Stableford event, Terry Walsh and Ken Baker taking second on the card from John Yemm and Nigel Wareing, Michael and Paul Farrimond.
Invitation day, a four-ball Stableford, at CROMPTON AND ROYTON saw Tony Sutherland and John Hankin head the field with 40 points, on the card from Alex Hopkinson and David Kay.
Martin Orme heads the field at the half-way stage of the 36-hole captain’s prize at SADDLEWORTH. He had a score of 70-2-68 to win on the card from Jordan Taylor (78-10-68). Third was Roy Dobson (78–9-69).
Captain’s qualifier No 6 at BROOKDALE saw Howard Kelly claim top spot in the first division with a score of 74-11-63.
His nearest challengers were Charlie Clough (70–5–65), Mick Boothby (75–9-66) and Steve Boyle (74-7-67).
Doug Unsworth (78-13-65) won division two on the card from Tony Henshaw (83-18-65). Third and fourth places went to P J Howarth (80-14-66) and Albert Brogan (86-19-67).
Winner of a singles Stableford was John Strachan with 39 points. Second was Paul Fry (38pts), on the card from Ray Deacon.
Brookdale are through to the final of the Oldham and District Rabbits League Cup and will play Stamford at a neutral venue.
It was a close call for Brookdale as Fairfield, needing to win 16-0 to oust them, just failed after defeating Dukinfield 14-2.
