Lady Captain’s Day at Werneth
OLDHAM defeated Shaw Hill 4-3 at home to win through to the quarter-finals of the Bell Cup.
From an initial entry of 80 clubs, Oldham are in the last eight after overcoming Chapel-en-le-Frith, Heaton Moor, Leyland and Shaw Hill.
Oldham’s winners were Bev Scholes (5 & 3), Jackie Lees (5 &4), Sue Mangov-Jones (2 & 1) and Jane Antrobus (5 & 4) who triumphed in the deciding seventh match.
Oldham also edged a 4-3 victory at home to Deane in the silver division of the Lancashire Handicap Shield through Mary Buckley (2 & 1), Karen Phanco (7 & 5), Joyce Beech (5 & 4) and Edythe Turner (6 & 5).
Karen Phanco lifted the Edwards Trophy after a round of 84-17-67 earned her a three-shot margin of victory over Janet Kershaw and Lyn Cotton who both had nett 70.
Oldham’s Jane Antrobus and Bev Scholes lifted the Rose Bowl after triumphing in the Ladies Open at CROMPTON AND ROYTON.
They amassed 41 points in the Stableford to finish three clear of Crompton and Royton’s Val Hall and Ann Fallows, from North Manchester.
Crompton and Royton’s Lynn Truelove and Jacquie Banham were third on the card from Blackley’s C Morris and B Simpson.
Crompton and Royton’s hopes of qualifying for the final of the Lancashire Handicap Shield were dealt a blow after they lost 3.5-1.5 at Childwall. Karen Heywood (3 & 2) was the only winner while Lynn Truelove halved her match.
And the High Barn club completed its Lancashire Shield bronze division fixtures with a 5-0 defeat at Bolton Lostock.
Jane Fletcher triumphed in Lady Captain’s Prize at WERNETH with a nett total of 140 after rounds of 72-5-67 and 78-5-73.
She finished two shots clear of Lisa Hall whose 142 comprised 99-31-68 and 102–28-74.
Sheila Waterhouse (101–28–73) took the first division prize in the opening round, while the second-division honours went to Gail Rowbotham (110-36-74).
Sylvia Haq (88-14-74) took the first division prize in the second round and the second division prize went to Brenda Martin (100-29-71).
Lady captain’s day at STAMFORD produced a win for lady vice-captain Mary Cowsill with a nett 71 - four shots clear of Ruth Moss.
A Texas scramble at SADDLEWORTH was won by the team of Sonia Dunn, Pam Taylor and Muriel Makin with a score of 78-7.3-70.7. Second were Ann Fitton, Sybil Bate and Brenda Gates (79-7.6-71.4).
Ann Walsh (32pts) headed the field in a two-ball Stableford from d Kay Orme (31).
