Beverley in stunning win

BEVERLEY Mercer had the round of her life as she won Lady Vice-Captain’s Prize at OLDHAM.
She amassed a remarkable 49 points in the singles Stableford as the 20-handicapper played to seven.
And, unsurprisingly, as a result of her triumph her handicap was slashed to 16.
Runner-up Sue Mangov-Jones scored 43 which under normal circumstances would have secured victory as the 15-handicapper played to five.
BROOKDALE’S Millennium Trophy saw Angela Hunter emerge the winner and continue her rich vein of form in her first year at the club.
As a major there was a handicap limit of 30 so Angela had to give away five shots. But she made light of the handicap to score 99-30-69 to edge out Diane Williams (84-15-69) on the card for top spot.
Angela’s success saw her handicap cut to 31.
Angela and Doug Unsworth were recent winners of the prestigious President’s Salver at Crompton and Royton.
Brookdale’s LGU medal and Francis Smith qualifier was won by Jean Clarke with a medal score of 87-20-67.
She finished one shot clear of runner-up Marian Richardson whose return was 94-26-68.
CROMPTON and Royton’s centenary women’s pro-am on Thursday, August 7, is a sell-out with 36 teams taking part.
The event, now in its 23rd year, sees teams of three women joined by a professional.
The field of paid men includes course-record holder Scott Astin, two-times winner of the professional’s prize Nick Sarjent and David Shacklady.
