Brookdale step closer to the title

Date published: 23 July 2008

BROOKDALE look to have one hand on the Oldham and District Golf League ‘A’ Division trophy after a 6-2 home win over Oldham.

That success came as nearest rivals Denton went down 5-3 at Werneth to stretch the gap to 14 and though Denton and level-second Dukinfield have a game in hand, time is running out with two weeks of the season remaining.

Brookdale’s home winners were Gary Lever and Pete Buckley (3 & 2), Garry Smith and Charlie Clough (3 & 2) and Brad Keeling and Steve Boyle (1up) while Paul Pattinson and Norman Radcliffe notched for the visitors.

Werneth’s home win came via Joe Cassidy and Adam Rowbotham, Pete Barrington and Jonathan Wilde and a half for Mike Fogo and Mike Farrimond.

In the ‘B’ Division, Denton have stolen a march on Brookdale after picking up maximum points at home to basement side Werneth.

That puts them seven clear after Brookdale’s game at Oldham fell victim to the weather and will have to be rearranged.

Saddleworth all but ended Dukinfield’s slim hopes of gatecrashing the title run-in when they picked up three useful points away from home through a win for Steve Wild and Jordan Taylor a half for Bernard Andrew and Glyn Dixon.

Week 12 results — A Division: Werneth 5, Denton 3; Brookdale 6, Oldham 2; Saddleworth 0, Dukinfield 8; Ashton 4, Stamford 4.

B Division: Denton 8, Werneth 0; Stamford 8, Ashton 0; Dukinfield 5, Saddleworth 3. Oldham v Brookdale (postponed, waterlogged).
