Thirds clinch cup-final spot

SADDLEWORTH thirds are looking forward to the Stokes Cup final in the Site Electrical North Manchester League.

The Well-i-Hole outfit booked their place courtesy of a four-wicket win over their Roe Green counterparts, who were restricted to 125 for seven.

Saddleworth are on course for a double as they sit third in division three, six points adrift of leaders East Lancs PM with three games in hand.

Meanwhile, Roytonians’ hopes of division two title glory suffered a setback against fellow contenders Clifton thirds.

The local outfit had no answer to Phil Royle, who put the home side in a command. The opener made a superb 127 in Clifton’s total of 234 for four from their 45 overs.

Roytonians were handily placed at the half-way stage — opener Wayne Critchley compiled 62 — before they eventually slipped to 174 all out.

Greenfield are on the heels of Saddleworth in division three after a seven-wicket win over Robinsons seconds.

Uppermill thirds climbed above Springhead seconds in division four after sweeping aside the Cooper Street club.

After compiling 241 for eight, ’Mill sent their local rivals crashing to 53 all out.
