FRIARMERE professional Liam Sebastien is a doubt for this weekend’s matches in the Armstrongs Office Furniture Saddleworth and District Cricket League.
The West Indian was taken to hospital on Sunday afternoon after banging his head on the ground while attempting a catch during the Tanner Cup semi-final tie at Bamford Fieldhouse.
Sebastien was checked over at Rochdale Infirmary before being released later that same evening.
Friarmere captain Gary Kershaw said: “Liam was drifting in and out of consciousness and it was quite worrying at the time.
“He was disorientated and I was surprised when he doctors said he could go home.
“I’ve been to see him and he has no recollection of Sunday’s events, but he seems to have perked up considerably.
“Liam has been told to stay off sport for a few days, so we’ll have to see about the weekend. We’re playing Glodwick, which is an important game for us, but I’m not going to push the issue.
“I have to say the umpires on the day, Clive Senior and Brian Cutlow, were fantastic and so, too, were Bamford Fieldhouse.”
As for the game itself, Kershaw reflected on a missed opportunity as Friarmere went down by 73 runs.
Kershaw, who was standing in for skipper Andy Walker, said: “We dropped Lincoln Roberts on two, who went on to make 79, and Peter Roberts on nought and he ended up with 83.
“They were dropped again later on. I’m not saying that cost us because Bamford have got plenty of good players, but it certainly didn’t help.
“Missing Liam was also a blow. It was a difficult wicket to bat on and he’s very good at picking up the ones and twos.”
NO further action will be taken against Droylsden professional Rameez Alam after concerns were raised over the Pakistani’s bowling action.
The 19-year-old all-rounder was brought to the attention of Saddleworth and District Cricket League officials after the game against Heyside last month.
The league sent a letter to the Lancashire Cricket Board seeking advice.
A reply from the director of the LCB, Andrew Hayhurst, said that because Alam was not officially reported and stopped from bowling in that particular match, he was free to carry on as normal.
