A FIVE-WICKET haul from Zahoor Raza paved the way for Copthorne to clinch a place in the semi-finals of the Ashton and Oldham Cricket Alliance’s Shield competition.
Raza’s figures of five for 20 helped reduce Europa Exiles to 92 all out. Farrow top-scored with 26.
Copthorne reached their target with four wickets to spare thanks to noteworthy efforts from Nabeel (38) and Abbas (24). Hodgson took three for 13.
They will lock horns with Newtonhurst, who got the better of St Mary’s HC by six wickets.
Ormerod hit a useful 42 in Saints’ total of 103 for seven from 35 overs.
Buckley claimed three for eight and went on to make 30 in reply, but it was Boyle and Potts who saw Newtonhurst home with 26 and 22 respectively.
The tie involving AJK and Foresters had to be decided by the toss of a coin — and Foresters called correctly to go through.
They will face Friends, who piled up 223 for seven against Greengate.
Qasim led the way with 63, Mosan made 44 and Umer struck 43, while Clarke took three for 53.
Despite 41 from Jackson and Bailey’s 27, Greengate succumbed to 154 all out. Imran, claiming four of the wickets to fall for just 16 runs, was the best of the bowlers
The semi-finals will be held on the weekend of August 23.
Meanwhile, Jay Hind will meet Radclyffe in the Supplementary Cup final on Sunday, August 3, at a venue to be confirmed.
Hind swept aside Waterhead Methodist in a one-sided semi-final.
Suresh, with three for six, did the early damage, and but for 18 apiece from Jolly and Amjad, Waterhead would have struggled to reach their final score of 74.
But the pair’s efforts were to no avail as Parth’s 40 secured a comfortable eight-wicket success.
The other tie was decided by a bowl-out, with Radclyffe beating Star Eleven 2-0.
