Angela tops after play-off drama

THERE was a dramatic finish to Lady Captain’s Day at BROOKDALE as Angela Sloan triumphed after a six-hole play-off.
Angela and Vicky Akin had finished tied on nett 140 after the 36-hole major.
Angela had returns of 78-11-67 and 84-11-73 while Vicky’s scores were 92-20-72 and 88-20-68.
But in the play off Angela edged ahead to win by a margin of three shots.
Wendy Ryan recorded the best gross score with 80 and 86 for 166.
Marian Richardson won the first-day prize with 91-25-66 while second-day honours went to Norma High (92-22-70).
And the best endeavour prize for high handicappers went to Angela Hunter with 147-62-85.
Noreen Nicholson achieved a third victory in Mr President’s Prize at CROMPTON AND ROYTON in style recording a seven shot margin of victory.
Her two-round total of 142 comprised rounds of 98-27-71 and 97-26-71 as she followed up her victories in 2004 and 06.
Second place went to Val Hall with 93-19-74 and 94-19-75 for 149 to edge out Zoe Styles on the card.
Her consolation was claiming the first-day prize with 77-6-71 while Ros Styles took the second-round honours with 97-22-75.
WERNETH’S foursomes medal saw Sylvia Haq and Joan Swindells emerge the victors by a landslide margin after a round of 89-17.5-71.5.
Runners-up were Hilda Garner and Kath Lomas (107-25.5-81.5) while third place went to Gail Rowbotham and Stephanie Banks (120-34.5-85.5).
