County men in final bid

A PLACE in the final of this year’s County Championship is up for grabs on Sunday (2pm) when Greater Manchester take on Shropshire.
Manchester rely on Crompton for the home venue and have packed their side with local players who know the green well.
The away venue is Greenfields BC, Shrewsbury.

TONGE maintained their improved from in the Manchester Premier League with an 11-3 (207-127) victory over South Manchester RBL.
Colin Lane and Darren Griffiths led the way with 21-6 wins, while other successful Tonge players were Jimmy Derby (21-10), Mark Dwayre (21-10), Steve Squire (21-12), Nicky Brooks (21-9), Gary Ellis (21-20) and Barry Walker (21-12).
Tonge are away to Sale XL next Wednesday (8.30pm).
MARK DWAYRE and Thomas Dobson, from Tonge, reached the finals of the Thwaites men’s pairs at Norden with a 21-18 third-round defeat of another Tonge player, Steve Copeland, and Syke’s Mike Holden.
Chadderton’s Steve Mellor and Barry Seville carry local hopes in the next heats on Sunday (5.30pm).
QUALIFIERS continue in the £3,000 Moorside Classic tonight.
