Cricket: Delph’s derby battle
Date published: 01 August 2008
FRESH from their triumph in the Drakes Huddersfield League’s Examiner Twenty/20 Cup final, Delph continue their quest for Premiership honours tomorrow (1.30pm) at home to in-form local title rivals Micklehurst.
Micklehurst seconds host Broad Oak in Premiership Two, while Delph seconds go to Armitage Bridge in Cedar Court Conference Two.
WOODHOUSES will take on holders Woodhouse Grange, from South Yorkshire, in the semi-finals of the National Village Cricket Cup.
The local side enjoy home advantage a week on Sunday and should be boosted by the return from holiday of the influential Chris Atherton, brother of former Lancashire and England skipper, Mike.
SHAW CC have retained the Saddleworth and District League’s under-13 division title.
Opponents Bamford won the toss and batted on a fine summer’s morning, but Shaw restricted them to 78 for four despite several dropped catches.
After the loss of a couple of early wickets, Ben Mckaigg (27 not out) and Graham Sinclair (29) steadied the ship for Shaw, who finally won a close-fought encounter with an over to spare.
