ROELOF HUGO, who is averaging over 120 this season, will be aiming for another big score for Heyside at Stayley tomorrow.
HEYSIDE will be aiming to cause an upset on Sunday when they bid for their first piece of silverware in their pursuit of a treble in the Armstrongs Office Furniture Saddleworth and District Cricket League.
The second team begin the club’s quest for honours when they contest the final of the Moore Cup against hosts Uppermill.
Uppermill are favourites as they are flying high in the table while Heyside, who lost a recent league fixture against the Leefields side, are third from bottom.
Wickets are pitched at 1.45pm and Uppermill’s challenge will be spearheaded by golden oldies Cec Wright (75) and Jim Bradbury (61).
Heyside’s first team are hoping for a double as they top the league and have also reached the final of the Tanner Cup.
Tomorrow, Heyside will be aiming to take another step towards the division one title when they visit Stayley.
They hold a 30-point lead at the top of the table, but that will all but disappear if second-placed Bamford win their game in hand, so there is little margin for error.
Bamford also hit the road. They play at Greenfield who last weekend defeated Shaw and Stayley.
It was a lift for Greenfield who don’t have a professional and have sacked overseas amateur Ryan Nurse for disciplinary reasons.
To their credit, they remain competitive with their home-produced team.
Bamford, with an array of talent at their disposal, will provide more of a threat to Greenfield.
Third-placed Uppermill, who need the top two to falter badly in the title run-in, have no fixture.
There is plenty of interest elsewhere. Friarmere host Hollinwood, Glodwick entertain fourth-placed Austerlands, Moorside are at home to Shaw, and Saddleworth have home advantage against second-from-bottom Droylsden.
