SPRINGHEAD seconds conceded one of highest totals in the Site Electrical North Manchester League — but rain saved them from almost certain defeat.

Their Rochdalians counterparts piled up 415 for four declared in Saturday’s division four fixture, with the local outfit on 104 for five in reply when the heavens opened.

Ironically, Springhead seconds hold the record for the most number of runs scored in an innings — 477 against Woodbank thirds four years ago.

Springhead were out of luck on Sunday, losing by six wickets to Edgworth thirds.

Elsewhere, Uppermill thirds recorded a much-needed win when they overcame Elton Vale seconds by 65 runs.

In division one, Failsworth Macedonia, after being bowled out for 110, succumbed by nine wickets to East Lancs PM, and Springhead lost by five wickets to Westleigh Meths.

The match involving Roytonians and second-placed Farnworth SC thirds ended in a tie after both sides completed their allotted overs on 160 for eight.

But Failsworth Macedonia seconds, after making 246 for six, were too good for Littleborough thirds.

Saddleworth’s third team suffered a setback to their division three title hopes when they went down to Roe Green thirds in a low-scoring affair.

Requiring just 72 to win, the Well-i-Hole outfit collapsed to 61 all out.

Greenfield thirds were bowled out for 85 in reply to 197 posted by Rochdale Catholic Club seconds.
