VICE-CAPTAIN Phil Taylor saluted a “good team effort” after Heyside seconds lifted the Moore Cup for the first time since 1971.
They completed part one of a possible club treble — the firsts are in the Tanner Cup final and lead division one — after they overcame Uppermill by 19 runs at Leefields.
Heyside, outsiders on the day, made 218 for eight from their 45 overs, before reducing the home side to 199 all out.
“Everyone played their part,” said Taylor, who was picking up his first piece of silverware after two failed attempts to win the Tanner Cup.
“James Cummings and Richard Bennett put runs on the board, while Gary Drew and Daniel Robertson bowled well. Daniel came on at the death, which took a good deal of nerve for a junior.
“Uppermill got off to a flyer — I think they put on 70-odd for the first wicket — but once their captain Mark Berry and Gary Crossley were out we knew we had a very good chance. They were the key wickets for us.”
Cummings was named man-of-the-match after making 47, Bennett hit 48 and 14-year-old Robertson claimed two for 24 from seven overs.
Uppermill’s main men were Berry, who made 45, Martin Salmon scored 41, Daniel Bacon compiled an unbeaten 37 and Michael Bird bagged three for 58 from his nine-over spell.
