STAMFORD will play Dukinfield in the final of the Oldham and District Golf League Knock-out Cup.
They booked their place with an impressive 3.5 -1.5 victory over Werneth at Saddleworth, while Dukinfield toppled Denton 4-1 at Stamford.
Stamford’s winners were Stuart Fletcher and Ian Trow (5 and 3), Keith Dockerty and the highly-impressive Steve Lennon, who was one under for his six ‘shot’ holes (6 and 5), and James Woodcock and Chris Houfe (3 and 2). Martin Dywer and John Strickland were two up with two to play when called in.
Werneth’s sole success came through opening pair Mark Abbott and James Buckley (1 hole).
Dukinfield’s successful pairings were John Cunningham and Andrew Taylor, Colin Lees and Mike Ferguson, Rob Fawcett and Mark Alderson and Martin Schofield and Chris Bamber.
Brookdale have completed the ‘A’ and ‘B’ league double.
With the ‘A’ division title secured last week, it was down to Chris Gleave’s men to gain at least a draw in a rearranged game at Oldham to overhaul Denton — and they did it in style with a 7-1 success.
Winners for Brookdale were Gary and Graham Whittaker, Mike Arnside and Tony Bergin, and Chris Gleave and Gary McHugh, while the half achieved by Paul Fry and Dave Harrison was enough to earn Paul the individual top points scorer for the division with 10.5.
