Stateside tourists stop off at Uppermill
Date published: 20 August 2008
A TEAM from America swapped sweltering heat for wet and windy Britain at the start of a 10-day tour.
And first up for the Soccer Valley Club, from Connecticut, was a match against a mixture of Uppermill under-14s and under-15s.
Despite the wet conditions, the game was played in a good atmosphere, with the visitors emerging 5-2 victors.
Uppermill’s goals came from Matthew McGroaty with a superb 25-yard strike, and Osman Bushara, who was rewarded for an impressive display.
The Connecticut club’s trip also included tours of Old Trafford and Anfield, a visit to Blackpool Pleasure Beach and tickets to watch Everton’s opening Premier League fixture against Blackburn Rovers.
