Barton reflects on wash-out

ANDY Barton, the Bamford Fieldhouse captain, was left to count the cost of the Tanner Cup final wash-out.
The Hollin Lane outfit had everything in place for a successful afternoon, but the weather put paid to all their plans.
They will have to do it all again on Sunday, and Barton said: “It was very frustrating for everyone concerned.
“I’ve probably lost about £2,000, because I’ve still had to pay for the PA system, a bouncy castle, the portaloos and food.
“The umpires had no choice but to call it off. The wicket and run-ups were covered, but the outfield was saturated.
“We couldn’t have done any more. We’d been working on the ground since 9am, but the weather beat us.”
HOLLINWOOD CC are hosting a benefit game for their long-standing professional Aamir Bashir on Bank Holiday Monday (start 3.30pm).
The 20 overs per-side match is between a Pakistan international XI and the Hollinwood team which won this year’s Saddleworth and District Cricket League’s Twenty20 Cup.
