Mannings leads the way

LOCAL clubs Oldham & Royton Harriers and Royton Road Runners were both well represented in the annual Frank Hodgson Saddleworth 6 road race.



Mike Mannings of Oldham & Royton Harriers finished fifth in a time of 33 minutes, 17 seconds, just under four minutes off the winner, and club colleague Owen Flage finished tenth with a time of 34:29.

Daniel Timperley also ran well for the club after completing the route in 38:48 seconds to finish in the top 50.

The race, which runs a six-mile route through Greenfield, was won by Andi Jones of Salford who finished in a excellent 29:36. He was closely followed by David Proctor, of Rochdale Harriers, in 32:9 seconds with club-mate Matthew Proctor just behind in 32.33.

Royton Road Runners had five of their athletes finishing in the top 60. Bernie Goodwin was their highest-placed runner with a time of 36:48 for 28th place. Bernard Cassidy posted a time of 36:56 to finish a place behind Goodwin.

Colin Green and David Hall finished within a second of each other with times of 39:07 and 39:08, respectively, while David Emanuel recorded 39:16 for 51st.
