Female players wanted

IT’S a new season, new strip and new manager for one of Oldham’s newest women’s football teams - and now they are on the hunt for new players.
Springhead Ladies can also guarantee to play every home game regardless of the weather because they play at the new generation artificial pitch at Chapel Road, Hollinwood.
Their captain and assistant manager Sam Shepherd says: “We are just asking for people who love football. As long as they want to play that is all that matters.
“We came third in the Manchester and Cheshire League last season, and we want as many players as possible, you can never have too many.
“We are serious and want to win games but we also have a good social side and a newly-refurbished clubhouse.”
Sam (21) from Waterhead, a Huddersfield University master’s student, was attracted to Springhead because her boyfriend Frankie Byrne also plays there.
She said the women’s side is aged 17 to early 30s, and trains every Wednesday at Springhead, playing on Sundays at Chapel Road.
Their new manager is Gary Hamill from Lees.
The club has its own website (www.clubwebsite.co.uk/springheadafc) or women who want to know more can contact the development officer Paula Revill on 077647 53281.
