Woodhouses back on trail of Lord’s final

IF at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.

That’s the motto for Woodhouses and Woodhouse Grange as they attempt to make it third time lucky in the semi-finals of the National Village Cup on Sunday.

The two teams, who are aiming to appear at Lord’s, have been thwarted by wet weather twice already this month.

But whatever happens this weekend, there will have to be a winner as the final, on Monday, September 8, is approaching fast.

If rain intervenes again, then the last-four tie will be decided by a bowl-out. Play is set to start at 1.30pm and entry is free.

OLDHAM and Crompton are gearing up for an important two days in the Lake Garage CLL.

In a top versus second clash, Oldham visit leaders Heywood tomorrow and play host to local rivals Werneth on Sunday.

Crompton, in third place, head to lowly Milnrow before entertaining Royton.

TITLE rivals Bamford Fieldhouse and Heyside are without key bowlers for Sunday’s re-arranged Tanner Cup final in the Armstrong Office Furniture Saddleworth and District Cricket League.

Andy Smith-Butler is missing for Bamford, while medium-pacer Carl Newton (pictured) is Heyside’s absentee.

Both teams are in action tomorrow when they will be looking to collect vital league points.
Bamford are at home to third-placed Moorside, who haven’t given up hope of making a late assault on the championship, and Mark Barnes’ Heyside visit Greenfield, who boast the leading amateur bowler in the league this season, the experienced Peter Gill.
