OVERNIGHT rain put paid to the Tanner Cup final for a second time yesterday, writes KEVIN RICHARDSON.
Hosts Bamford Fieldhouse and Heyside, the top two in the Armstrongs Office Furniture Saddleworth and District Cricket League, will now meet on Saturday, September 6.
The championship contenders were in action on Saturday, and both were fortunate to come away with draws after rain stopped play.
Moorside were 118 for one in reply to Bamford’s 189 for eight and Greenfield were 130 for seven after they had restricted Heyside to 138 all out. Leading amateur bowler Peter Gill took seven for 56.
Elsewhere, Andy Young produced the best bowling figures in the league so far this season as Austerlands swept to a 125-run over Hollinwood at Thorpe Lane.
The medium-pace bowler bagged nine for 55 for Kevin Du Feu’s side, who enhanced their chances of qualifying for next year’s LCB Cup.
West Indian professional Donwell Hector had earlier made 93 in Austerlands’ total of 240 for eight.
In the other two games played to a finish, Uppermill crushed Shaw by 141 runs and Saddleworth were three-wicket winners over Glodwick.
