Last-ball win for Unsworth
Date published: 26 August 2008
Unsworth pulled off a dramatic last-ball victory against Monton and Weaste in last night’s final of the John Willie Lees Twenty20 Competition.
Hosts Monton scored a modest 103 for five from their 20 overs, former Crompton player Naveed Din top scoring with 21 not out, while ex-Werneth player Liam Richards took two wickets for two runs from four overs.
Unsworth were indebted to professional Wayne Madsen who scored 62 not out as they scraped home at 104 for eight, Monton’s Trent Scott claiming three wickets for nine runs off four overs.
No other Unsworth player reached double figures, which underlined the importance of the innings from man-of-the-match Madson.
