OLDHAM TOWN head for Dark Lane tonight and an FA Cup, preliminary-round replay against Rossendale United, hopng to put behind them the disappointment of Saturday’s 1-1 draw when the visitors equalised in the 92nd minute.

Manager Tony Mills said: “My main job will to raise the heads of the lads as they were down after Saturday when they worked hard and gave everything. But we showed we were in no way inferior to a team two divisions than ourselves.

“If our main players turn up and perform as they can do, we can cause a surprise.”

If Town win tonight, they will be away at either Woodley Sports or Brodsworth Miners Welfare in the first qualifying round.

Town’s cup replay means tomorrow’s scheduled league game at Irlam Town has been postponed.

CHADDERTON hit Daisy Hill for six, recording a 6–1 home victory in the reserve division of the Vodkat North West Counties League. Clive Best scored twice and also on target were John Shaw, Sean Ahern, James Mooney and Gareth Morris from the penalty spot.

n NEW Mossley manager Chris Willcock is surprised and delighted by the Lilywhites’ flying start to the campaign.

Willcock’s new-look side has won three of its first four matches in UniBond League first division north and won through to the first qualifying round of the FA Cup to earn the club £1,500 in prize money.

He said: “I have brought in a lot of new players and normally you would expect it would take some time for them to gel. It is all credit to the lads who have worked tremendously hard.”

Mossley are away to the winners of the Bottesford Town/Flixton replay in the first qualifying round on Saturday, September 13.

Willcock has strengthened his squad with the acquisition of former FC United winger Scott Holt, from Irlam FC.
