CROMPTON and Royton fell at the final hurdle as they were beaten in the final of the Lancashire Scratch Shield.
The High Barn club, as south east division winners, were one of four teams to win through to the finals day at Worsley.
In their semi-final, Crompton and Royton defeated Lancaster 3-2 with wins from Bernice Fitton, Sarah Penney and Karen Heywood.
But in the final the local club lost 3-2 to Pleasington who had beaten Royal Lytham in their last-four match.
Pleasington took a decisive 3–0 winning margin which meant they conceded the last two matches which were still out on the course.
Noreen Nicholson stormed to victory in the President’s Prize at Crompton and Royton.
She had a seven shot winning margin after shooting rounds of 98-27-71 and 97-26-71 for 142.
Runner-up was Val Hall whose 149 comprised 93-19-74 and 94-19-75.
The first and second-day prizes both went to Nicholson with Hall runner-up in both.
And Nicholson’s fine form continued with victory in the latest LGU medal as she scored 32 points in the singles Stableford and triumphing on the card from Jacquie Banham and Jean Heathcote.
OLDHAM’S luck finally ran out in the Bell Cup as they were defeated 4-3 against Wilpshire at Accrington in a closely contested quarter final.
It was a last-eight match which could have gone either way as Elizabeth Johnson had the misfortune of losing at the first extra hole having recovered from being five holes down to square the game.
Oldham’s two winners were Lynn Kershaw (7&5) and Sheila Antrobus while Wilpshire conceded the last game, which was all square, as they had already secured victory.
Oldham’s Autumn Meeting, a major, was won by Sheila Antrobus with a score of 81–14–67.
Wendy Cash, with 84, had the best gross score as Antrobus was not eligible to win a second prize as she shot 81.
Kay Orme romped to a six shot margin of victory in the President’s Prize at SADDLEWORTH.
She had a two-round total of 155-12-143 which was well clear of Lilian Howarth (185-36-149).
The first-day prize went to Barbara Shuttleworth (100-28-72) and second-day honours to Barbara Mitchell (101-30-71).
Jane Fletcher and Gail Rowbotham were the runaway winners of the George and Betty Nash Greensome at WERNETH.
They had a return of 87-16.2-70.8 which was well clear of runners-up Joan Swindells and Eileen Fallows (95-21-74).
Lisa Hall and Noreen Butterworth (108-30.8-77.2) claimed the first division sweep while second division honours went to Fiona Dooley and Jane Clark (86-8.2-77.8).
