Peter picks up top prize

PETER GRAHAM claimed President’s Prize at CROMPTON AND ROYTON after shooting a two-round total of nett 134.

He had rounds of 74-6-68 and 72-6-66 to finish two shots clear of runner up Mark Barrett whose 136 comprised 74-5-69 and 72-5-67.

And third place went to Colin Howarth with 83-12-71 and 79-12-67 for 138.

Steve Sharrock (83-16-67) won the first-round prize from Graham Walker (77-9-68).

And in the second round the honours went to C J Clarke (80-14-66) from Andy Allan (71-4-67).

The Junior President’s Prize saw Matthew Schofield emerge the victor after a round of 89-25-64.

Steve Ogden had an emphatic four shot margin of victory in the Clegg Cup, a 36-hole major at OLDHAM.

Ogden had nett scores of 78-18-60 and 82-18-64 for a two-round total of 124.

Runner-up was Pete Dunleavy (73-7-66 and 69-7-62 for 128) on the card from Lee Newsome (66-3-63 and 68-3-65).

In the rearranged first round, which had previously been washed out, Dunleavy headed the field with a score of 69-7-62.

Second was Bill McConnell (81-18-63) on the card from Pete Sparks (75-12-63).

Winners of a four-ball betterball Stableford were Matt and Norman Radcliffe (45pts) on the card from Paul Pattinson and Lee Melia. Third place went to Dave Ganley and Pete Dunbar (41).

Nigel Fish hooked top spot in Captain’s Prize, a 36-hole major at STAMFORD, after nett scores of 62 and 67 for 129.

The first-day prize went to James Woodcock (65) from Alan Gledhill (66) while Fish (62) topped the second-day field on the card from Stuart Fletcher and Richard Margrave.

Stamford’s ‘Mad Hatters’ had their 21st annual day out at Disley where there was a 40-strong field. John Mellor won the 27-hole Stableford with a score of 63 points.

WERNETH’S monthly medal saw Ian Gillies claim top spot in the second division after shooting a sub-60 round.

He had a return of 73-14-59 which was four shots clear of second-placed Ron Bowden (78-15-63).

Pete Oldham (75-13-62) was the victor in division one on the card from Michael Farrimond (67-5-62).

A mixed open team Stableford saw Werneth’s Paul and Gail Rowbotham and Oldham pair Barry Lewis and Linda Bailey emerge triumphant with 86 points.

In second place with 83 points were the Oldham four of David Bailey, Jane Antrobus, Bev Scholes and Mark Furnival.

And third place went to Werneth’s Paul Higgins, Pat Grant and Shaun Rattigan, along with Oldham’s Lynn Kershaw, who amassed 81 points.

The Centenary Mixed Foursomes at BROOKDALE saw Jean Clarke and Doug Unsworth (68) claim top spot on the card from Angela Hunter and Derek Miller. Third place went to Val Brogan and Bill Hilton with 72.

Winners of any any combination four-ball Stableford at SADDLEWORTH were B and M Ord (43pts) on the card from R Pope and S Groves.

Third were N Chambers and D Coburn (42) on the card from C and M Lister.

Matt Woolley took top spot in a singles Stableford with 42 points. Runner-up was Mick Jackson (41) while third place went to Nick Corrigan (40).
