A SERIOUS injury sustained by key player James Curley has put a dampener on Oldham Town’s bright start to the season.
Front-man Curley faces up to three months on the sidelines after breaking two bones in his foot playing in the Oldham Sunday League.
Curley was playing for newly-named Lowerhouse United - formerly Sun Inn - as a favour to help out as they were short of players for their opening match of the campaign.
He scored twice in a 3-2 win at Failsworth Athletic before his injury but will now have his foot encased in plaster for between four and six weeks and then he will have to begin his rehab.
In the Jack Abbott Premier League, Coppice United have taken an early position at the summit after playing three fixtures in six days but failed to keep up their 100-per-cent record after drawing with Royton FC.
High Crompton managed to let a three-goal lead slip and lost to Hunt Lane Tavern.
In the David Giblin First Division, a hard-fought battle between Red Star and FC Broadgate saw the latter come out on top by the odd goal. Hobin and Beamish both rattled the woodwork late on but Broadgate hung on to notch their first win.
Westwood picked up their first points after a win at home to Wellington A.
There were some high scoring games in the second division, with Rifle Range putting eight past Royton Cons which, with their win earlier in the week, leaves them at the top of the table with Marvin Greenwood FC and Steven Caine FC, each with unblemished records.
