HE Oldham men’s darts team produced some sensational throwing to defeat Rochdale 7-3 in their opening game of the season in the Lancashire GMC Super League, premier division.
Man-of-the-match Peter Connolly beat former England international Alan Glazier 3-0 in 18, 17 and 13 darts with an average of 93.94 every three darts.
John Morton was in equally impressive form, winning 3-1 in 18 darts each leg and including a 121 checkout as he averaged 82.13.
Lee Williams also stood out, winning in 18, 18 and 15 darts in his 3-0 victory at an average of 88.40, while Oldham’s other victories were secured by Peter Day snr (3-0), Dave Yates (3-1), Stuart Holden (3-1) and David Rawstron (3-0).
The match produced 157 hundreds and Oldham’s team average was 74.55. Williams, Morton and Connolly hit 180s.
OLDHAM women opened their Lancashire GMC Super League, premier division campaign with a 4-4 draw at Morecambe.
Debbie Dunkerley came to Oldham’s rescue with a 3-2 victory in an exciting last match.
Other winners were Janet Fox (3-0), Shereen Scholes (3-0) and Joan Hicken (3-0).
SEVEN Oldham players are on county duty for Lancashire against Cheshire this weekend at Rudheath - Downs, Neil Hunter, Yates, Connolly and Chris North who will be making his debut will be representing the men while mother and daughter Janet Fox and Shereen Scholes feature for the women.
THE Springbank Open, a competition with a £500 prize fund, was won by John Morton, who defeated Tony Brophy in the final to collect a cheque for £200.
Geoff Tucker and Joe Heywood were the losing semi-finalists.
