Delph pray for miracle
Date published: 11 September 2008
DELPH need a surprise set of results to win the Drakes Huddersfield League premiership one title on Saturday.
With one game to go, Grant Jones’ side sit fourth in the table, five points behind joint leaders Golcar and Honley. They are also two points below third-placed Elland.
Delph’s only hope is if Golcar and Honley fail to pick up a point against Micklehurst and Barkisland respectively. Elland would also need to lose at Skelmanthorpe.
That unlikely scenario would then open the door for Delph, but only if they clinch a six-point win at Holmfirth.
If there is a tie at the top of the table, then Golcar will be crowned champions by virtue of more outright wins.
Micklehurst will be without influential batsman Dennis Lonergan, who has returned home to Australia.
Lonergan signed off with 14 runs in the Richmond Hill club’s eight-wicket victory over Lascelles Hall.
