Oldham aim to clinch second spot

THE curtain comes down on another Lake Garage CLL season on Sunday when Heywood will officially be crowned champions and Oldham have the chance to finish as runners-up.

Heywood, six points clear of Oldham with only one fixture remaining, cannot be caught.

Oldham, meanwhile, are three points clear of Crompton and Norden, who are joint third.

Mel Whittle’s men know that victory at Radcliffe will secure second place, irrespective of what Crompton and Norden achieve.

Crompton have an easier-looking fixture than Oldham. Simon Wright’s team entertain Littleborough at Glebe Street, while Norden will also be favourites to win at Middleton.

Royton’s season has not finished in the style they would have wished, but they will be hoping to sign off with a bang at Unsworth.

Werneth, however, know that nothing less than a win at home to Clifton will given them any chance of climbing off the bottom of the table on the last day of the season.

Sunday (12.30pm): Crompton v Little-borough; Middleton v Norden; Milnrow v Heywood; Monton and Weaste v Ashton; Radcliffe v Oldham; Unsworth v Royton; Walsden v Rochdale; Werneth v Clifton.

n OLDHAM’S Twenty20 floodlit competition starts tomorrow night (8.30) when the host club entertain Werneth. Crompton take on Bamford on Saturday night.
