HOLLINWOOD missed the chance to go top of the Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League premier division.

Without six players because of suspension, Mark Howard’s outfit were beaten 4-2 at East Manchester. Alan Beckett got the consolation goals.

Rain played havoc with Saturday’s fixture programme.

Springhead and Avro had an afternoon off after their games were postponed, and Royton Town’s fixture at Lostock St Gerards was also a victim of the wet weather. The tie has been rearranged for this weekend.

Meanwhile, Hollinwood reserves defeated their ‘A’ team 4-1 in division three.

A FIRST-HALF goal condemned Uppermill to a 1-0 defeat at home to Shepley on the opening day of the Huddersfield and District League season.

In one of only five games to go ahead because of waterlogged pitches, ’Mill went behind when a long-range effort bounced awkwardly in front of ’keeper Alan Scorer before finding its way into the back of the net.

They were much better after the break but, despite hitting the woodwork on two occasions, last season’s runners-up were unable to force an equaliser.

Byrom Coleman netted twice on his debut for ’Mill’s second team, who were 4-2 winners over Britannia Sports in reserve division one. Dave Lees and an own goal made up the tally.

Heyside also made a good start, edging out Slaithwaite United 3-2 in reserve division two.

OLDHAM Victoria are off the mark in division two of the Lancashire and Cheshire League.

After one defeat and a draw, they opened their account with a 2-1 win at Tintwistle Athletic.

Meanwhile, the league are celebrating their centenary season with a special dinner at Manchester City FC on Friday, November 14.

Guest speaker is Sir Trevor Brooking, the former England and West Ham star who is director of football development at the FA.

SANTOS AFC reserves made a flying start to the new season with a thumping 4-0 victory at Govan Athletic.

Chris Sarsfield, John Mayall, Adam McKinney and Adam Taylor were on the mark, while James Stockton saved a penalty late on to preserve a clean sheet.

Santos’ first-team fixture against Tintwistle Athletic was postponed.

THE wet weather claimed the entire D&J Builders (North-West) Ltd Oldham Sunday League and Ashton Sunday League programmes.
