Dog secure cup in thrilling final

DOG and Partridge beat Werneth Cricket ‘A’ by three chalks in a thrilling Failsworth League Castle Cup final.

They reached the final with a comfortable success against Shaw Comrades, while Werneth booked their place with a nine-chalks verdict over Nimble Nook ‘B’.

TONGE remain in fourth place in the Manchester Premier League after beating Budenbergs 8-7.5 (184-166) at home on Wednesday.

Jimmy Derby (21-12), Nicky Brooks (21-9), Darren Griffiths (21-18), Laurence Hallett (21-7) and Gary Ellis (21-15) were successful for Tonge.

There are no fixtures next Wednesday because of the Waterloo Handicap finals in Blackpool.

Hoping to get to those finals are Nimble Nook team-mates Andrew Buckley and Gary Ellis, who are in action in the last 64 tomorrow (10am).

Tonge’s next Manchester Premier League match is at British Plate of St Helens on Wednesday, September 24 (7.30pm).

TONGE’S Colin Lane is among 16 finalists in the Your Choice Windows men’s singles at Norden BC on Sunday (4pm).
