Saddleworth League cricket; Double hunt for a double
Date published: 12 September 2008
ONE weekend, two teams and an Armstrongs Office Furniture Saddleworth and District Cricket League double up for grabs.
Bamford Fieldhouse and Heyside, level on points at the top of the table, go head to head in the Tanner Cup final tomorrow (start noon).
Twenty-four hours later the two teams will be gunning for title glory on the final day of the season.
Bamford are at home to Hollinwood (start 1.15pm), while Heyside welcome Glodwick to Little Hey Street.
If they are still locked together on Sunday evening then Bamford, by virtue of more outright wins, will be crowned champions.
Andy Barton’s Bamford are at full-strength, but Heyside skipper Mark Barnes is without opening batsman Steve Firth and leading wicket-taker Dean Watkinson.
OLDHAM and Crompton are in with a chance of finishing runners-up in the Lake Garage Central Lancashire League, whose season concludes on Sunday (start 12.30pm).
Oldham, six points adrift of newly-crowned champions Heywood, are three ahead of Crompton and Norden, who are joint third.
Oldham have the toughest match of the three, an away fixture at fifth-placed Radcliffe, while Crompton entertain mid-table Little-borough and Norden go to Towncroft to face struggling Middleton.
Royton are away to Unsworth and Werneth play host to Clifton.
WOODHOUSES complete their Lancashire County League season with a home match against Denton.
